Girl, 13, and mum caught for prostitution

SIBU - A 13-year-old girl, detained together with her mother on the streets here, said she went into the sex trade out of necessity. Denying that her mother had forced her to sell her body, the girl said she had been working as a prostitute since she was 11 out of a need to put food on the table. Caught in dragnet She was arrested together with her 38-year-old mother, along with 14 others, at Butterfly Garden in Jalan Chew Geok Lim here. Three of those detained were transvestites. A police party led by Acting OCPD Supt Zamani Hamdan Sirat said the girl would be referred to the welfare department.
